The Reversed Flow
When the Lung (Metal/Yin) is deficient, it cannot send Yin to control the Gall Bladder (Wood/Yang). If the Gall Bladder Yang gets higher than the Lung Yang, it reverses — Gall Bladder Yang flows to the Lung, controlling Lung Yin and increasing Lung Yang. This is the Counter-Powering Cycle.
Treatment
Restore the normal direction of energy flow:
For Lung/Gall Bladder Counter-Power:
• GB 38 sedation — disperse the excess Gall Bladder Yang, send in the normal way
• Lu 1 (Mu-front) and Lu 7 (Luo) — tonify Lung Yin to reassert control
Why Wind Symptoms Manifest in the Lungs
This explains why wind symptoms (sneezing, itching, irritation) manifest mostly in the Lungs and skin, even though internal wind is generated by the Liver. If the Lung Yin were in a strong position, it would flow to the Gall Bladder and control its Yang — and indirectly the Liver's Yang. Only when Lung is quite Yin deficient does the counter-flow occur.
Clinical Example: Hepatitis with Pruritus
Not every hepatitis patient gets skin irritation. Only those with Lung Yin deficiency and very dry skin suffer these symptoms. If wind symptoms manifest on the Lung, the Lung must be quite Yin deficient. Energy always flows from where it is in excess to where it is deficient — if the Lung Yin were strong, it would control the Gall Bladder Yang.
