Conditions Guide

Beneficial and cautionary yoga poses for eight common health conditions — rooted in the tradition of adapting practice to the body.

Many headaches are caused by tension and stress. Yoga stretches tight upper-body muscles, releases endorphins, and relaxes the mind. Avoid poses that put pressure on the head and neck or dramatically increase blood flow to the head.

Beneficial Poses

  • •Seated forward bends — release tension in hamstrings and lower back
  • •Seated twists — prevent headaches from upper/lower back tension
  • •Garuda hand position — stretches upper back and shoulders
  • •Cow Face hand position — stretches triceps, shoulders, rotator cuffs

Approach with Caution

  • •Intense inversions — increase heart rate and blood flow to the head
  • •Bridge Pose — puts pressure on the head and neck

This guide is educational and reflective — not medical advice. Always consult a qualified health professional regarding your specific condition, especially before attempting inversions, backbends, or intense poses.
