Nadis — The Subtle Energy Channels
Nadis are energetic channels of Sanskrit origin that circulate vital energy along the vertebral column. More subtle than meridians, they are situated in the astral body. Symbolised as light rays that circulate life within your cells. There are several million nadis, but three are most important.
Ida (Yin (lunar))
Path: Starts in the left nostril, finishes at the coccyx
Function: Carries lunar prana, related to psychic force
Direction: Ascending lunar prana
Pingala (Yang (solar))
Path: Starts from the right nostril, descends to the coccyx
Function: Carries solar prana, related to physical force
Direction: Descending solar prana
Sushumna (Central)
Path: Central nadi in the spinal cord. Begins at the coccyx, supplies the 7 major chakras, terminates at the fontanel ('The Brahma Hole')
Function: Permits relationship between chakras. When Ida and Pingala are activated, Sushumna combines both energies and ascends to purify the chakras.
Direction: Vertical
Purification Methods:
Nadis can be polluted with emotional or karmic charges. They must be purified for particular initiations, like the Kundalini Fire initiation.
