Brennan's direct observations of consciousness after physical death — what happens to the HEF, the astral body, and the soul.
Death Is Not the End
From Brennan's 40+ years of observing the HEF with High Sense Perception, death is not the end of consciousness. It is a transition — the astral body and higher levels of the HEF continue to exist and function after the physical body dies.
The silver cord disconnects, the astral body separates from the physical body, and consciousness continues in the fourth-level reality (the astral world).
The Astral Body After Death
The fourth level of the HEF — the astral body — is the body in which we experience dreams. After death, this body continues. It is the body that:
This is why dying doesn't resolve your issues — you carry them with you. Someone who dies with unresolved anger, fear, or guilt carries those into the astral world.
What Happens Immediately After Death
Based on Brennan's observations:
The Post-Death Visit Phenomenon
Brennan observed that the recently deceased frequently visit their loved ones. The purpose is usually to:
Brennan's Father's Visit
When Brennan's father died, she went into meditation to help him if he was disoriented. Instead, he came into her room and filled her with the distilled wisdom he had learned in his life. He asked her to channel in her workshop because he had never seen her channel.
During the workshop channeling, her father came into the room with her aunt Grace and his mother (Brennan's grandmother, who had died when her father was eight). He was so happy to see his mother again! The entire room filled with ancestors of all workshop participants, and Heyoan led a healing between each participant and their deceased relatives.
Marjorie's Continued Presence
Marjorie, a Juilliard-trained harpist who channeled music at Brennan's goddess healings, died of breast cancer. At her funeral, Brennan saw her in pure white robes with a golden halo and stars above.
When the priest sprinkled holy water, Marjorie's spiritual body disconnected from her physical body and floated to the rafters. She resumed her normal appearance, came down next to Brennan, and giggled and joked about the ceremony.
For years afterward, Marjorie continued to play at the goddess healings. She said: "Finally I have the high notes I have always wanted! Can you hear them?" She eventually moved up through the hierarchy of angels and then told Brennan she would leave soon — and she did.
The Fourth-Level Reality
The fourth-level reality — the astral world — is where consciousness goes after death. It is:
Suicide and Getting Lost
Brennan observed that people who commit suicide often become lost in the astral world. They discover that dying didn't solve their problems — they carry the same issues but no longer have a physical body to stabilize their emotions and self-judgments.
Bud, a man who hanged himself, became what Brennan first perceived as a "dark entity." He was dark because of deep despair and guilt about the suicide — not because he was evil. When Brennan called for him (having projected into his ashes and called his name at the abyss between worlds), he came to her for help, clinging to her legs to avoid getting lost.
The lesson: dying doesn't get you out of an unresolved situation. It pushes it forward into the next incarnation. Healing is the work of the living.
Movement Toward the Light
Eventually, most beings in the astral world move toward the light — toward higher spiritual levels. This process:
Reincarnation
Brennan's observations support the understanding of reincarnation. Unresolved experiences from any life remain in the field until resolved. We keep re-creating the same type of experiences until we heal them. Incarnation is an opportunity to clear karma — to resolve what was left unfinished.
"Karma can be seen as an opportunity to resolve any conflict or to clarify any misunderstanding about reality that you have within you."
— Heyoan
The Comforting Truth
The most comforting observation from Brennan's work: we remain connected to our loved ones after death. The relational cords that connect us don't disappear — they continue to carry love, information, and wisdom between the living and the deceased.
Death is not an ending. It is a transition. Love continues. Connection continues. Healing continues. The creative pulse of life — stasis, expansion, stasis, contraction — continues across what we call "death" and "life."

Physical Release
The physical body ceases functioning. The HEF begins to separate from the physical form.
Indicators
If consciousness continues beyond the physical body, how does that change how you want to live today?
