The natural built-in senses that go beyond normal perception — what they are, how they work, and how to develop them ethically.
What Is High Sense Perception?
High Sense Perception (HSP) is simply a way to receive information through the natural built-in senses that we all have but most people don't acknowledge, much less know how to use. Brennan coined the term because "psychic" or "clairvoyant" implied weird stuff. HSP is not weird — it's a natural human capacity.
Through HSP, Brennan could see thoughts, feelings, and movements in the HEF before they happened in the physical world. An enormous amount of detailed information is available through these natural bioenergy fields: health, causes of illness, the relationship between mental and emotional functioning, life choices, and lifestyle.
How HSP Works
HSP works through your chakras. Chakras are not just energy metabolizers — they are also perceptual centers. When functioning properly, they give you the ability to perceive the world beyond normal sensory perception. You can sense in a much broader range of perceptions.
This is the basis of what people call intuition, hunches, "gut feelings," the sense that something is right or wrong, or the feeling that something is going to happen. These are not random — they are your chakras metabolizing information from the universal energy field.
The Chakras as Sensory Organs
Each chakra serves as a sensory organ for a different type of perception:
Most people have one or two channels more developed than the others. The work is to develop all channels for balanced perception.
The Pseudopod: Extending Your Perception
Brennan describes how HSP works mechanically: the healer extends a "pseudopod" — a tendril of energy consciousness — from their own field to connect with the client's field. This is done through the chakras, particularly the hand chakras.
Important Rule:
Never pull information (especially pain) about another person into your own body. Always bring HSP into the pseudopod to connect to the other, rather than drawing their energy into yourself. This is a fundamental rule of energetic hygiene.
Coherent vs. Incoherent Fields
A coherent field is clear, charged, balanced, and flowing. An incoherent field is scattered, undercharged, distorted, and blocked. HSP requires a coherent field — you cannot perceive clearly through an incoherent field.
This is why personal process work is essential for developing HSP. If your field is full of blocks, your perception will be distorted by projections. Clear your field, clear your perception.
Stumbling Blocks in HSP
1. Projection
If you don't understand how the fourth-level reality works, it's very easy to project your own duality onto what you perceive. Fear becomes the creative force that creates the feared event — projection becomes creation.
2. Fear Draws Like Energy
Your fear (which is energy consciousness) draws like energy consciousness to it. You will find exactly what you feared you would find. Personal process work to uncover and deal with your fears is essential.
3. Demanding to Be Psychic
Forcing HSP leads to projection and complicated fantasy that confuses the student. Patience, humility, and focused work in personal process and skills practice will take you far.
The Ethics of Perception
Brennan emphasizes a critical principle: look for what is, not for what is wrong. When observing with HSP:
How Brennan Discovered HSP
During her bioenergetic therapy training, Brennan noticed that one of the group leaders was blind from cataracts — but she could clearly see and describe the flow of energy through the students' bodies. Brennan decided to observe how she was "seeing" and copy what she was doing. To her surprise, it worked!
She then methodically observed how her own HEF functioned when she used HSP. She noticed it functioned similarly to the MRIR (infrared radiometer) she had worked with at NASA — but the instrument was in her own head. She was stunned, and kept it secret for years. Eventually, she realized this is a natural capacity available to everyone who is willing to develop it.
HSP and Curiosity
Brennan describes the path of HSP development as a cycle:
Curiosity leads to observation
that leads to investigation
that leads to discovery
that leads to understanding
that leads to applications
that then improve our lives!
