What Are Affirmations?

An affirmation is anything you say or think. Every thought you think and every word you speak is an affirmation. All of your self-talk is a stream of affirmations. You are affirming and creating your life experiences with every word and thought.

Synthesized from the teachings of Louise Hay. All personal stories and author-specific references have been removed.

Techniques for Practice

Mirror Work

Look yourself in the eye in a mirror and say your affirmation. The direct eye contact bypasses conscious filters and speaks to the subconscious.

  1. Stand before a mirror.
  2. Look into your own eyes.
  3. Say your affirmation with feeling.
  4. Repeat 3-10 times.

Written Affirmations

Write your affirmation by hand, 10-20 times. The physical act of writing deepens the imprint on the subconscious mind.

  1. Write your affirmation 10-20 times.
  2. Write slowly, feeling each word.
  3. Do this morning and evening for 30 days.

Spoken Affirmations

Say your affirmation aloud. The vibration of your voice is powerful — the subconscious responds to the sound and feeling of your own voice.

  1. Say your affirmation aloud with conviction.
  2. Speak as if it is already true.
  3. Repeat 3 times, morning and evening.

Affirmation Cards

Write your affirmations on small cards. Place them where you will see them throughout the day. Each time you see one, say it silently.

  1. Write affirmations on index cards.
  2. Place on mirror, desk, car dashboard, phone lock screen.
  3. Say silently each time you see one.

Gratitude + Affirmation

Combine gratitude with affirmation. Express gratitude for what you have, then affirm what you are creating. The gratitude raises your vibration.

  1. List 5 things you are grateful for.
  2. Feel the gratitude in your body.
  3. Then say your affirmation with feeling.

The 21-Day Journey

Day 1

What Are Affirmations?

Every thought counts. You are using affirmations every moment whether you know it or not. Begin to choose your thoughts deliberately.

"I choose thoughts that create my good."

Day 2

The Power of Affirmations

The only moment you ever live in is this moment. Say affirmations in the present tense, without contractions. The Universe responds to your energy.

"I am in perfect health now."

Day 3

Self-Esteem

You were born confident. Somewhere during childhood, you learned feelings of inadequacy. These were never true and are not true now.

"I approve of myself."

Day 4

Change

We must change inside. We must change our way of thinking, speaking, and expressing ourselves. Only then will the outer changes occur.

"I am willing to change."

Day 5

Fearful Emotions

In any situation, we have a choice between love and fear. Fear is a natural response to the unknown. Feel the fear, and do it anyway.

"I am safe in the universe. All life loves and supports me."

Day 6

Critical Thinking

The habit of criticizing yourself and others blocks good from entering your life. Catch every critical thought and replace it with approval.

"I see the world through eyes of love and acceptance."

Day 7

Letting Go of the Past

The past is over. What we hold on to keeps us stuck. Forgiveness is the key to letting go — it frees you, not the other person.

"I release the past and embrace the present moment."

Day 8

Forgiveness

Forgiveness is not about condoning what happened. It is about freeing yourself from the prison of resentment. When you forgive, you set a prisoner free — yourself.

"I forgive myself and others. We were all doing the best we could."

Day 9

Health — The Body

Your body is always trying to be healthy. The thoughts you think affect your body at a cellular level. Loving your body is the first step to health.

"I listen to my body with love and compassion."

Day 10

Health — Healing

Health is not just the absence of disease — it is a state of vibrant aliveness. Symptoms are messengers telling you something needs attention.

"I am in perfect health. My body is strong and vibrant."

Day 11

Loving Yourself

Loving yourself is the foundation of everything. When you truly love yourself, everything in your life works better. Self-love is not vanity — it is deep respect.

"I love and approve of myself exactly as I am."

Day 12

Friendship

The friendships you attract reflect the relationship you have with yourself. Like attracts like. Be a good friend to yourself first.

"I attract loving, supportive, kind people into my life."

Day 13

Love and Intimacy

True intimacy requires vulnerability. You cannot receive more love than you believe you deserve. Expand your self-worth, and love expands with it.

"I am open to giving and receiving deep, authentic love."

Day 14

Creativity

Creativity is not limited to art. It is how you approach life. The creative force is the life force itself. Everyone is creative.

"I am a creative being. Creativity flows through me naturally."

Day 15

Work

Your work is an expression of who you are. When your work aligns with your values, it becomes service. Don't ask what job you can get — ask what you have to give.

"I am fulfilled and abundantly compensated for my work."

Day 16

Money and Prosperity

Your relationship with money reflects your relationship with life. Money is energy — it flows to where it is welcomed. Abundance is your natural state.

"Money flows into my life in an abundant way."

Day 17

Addictions

Addictions are attempts to fill a void. The void is usually a lack of self-love. When you learn to fill yourself with love, the addiction loses its grip.

"I am free from all cravings and addictions."

Day 18

Aging

Aging is not decline — it is deepening. With each year, you gain wisdom, perspective, and freedom. Your body ages according to your beliefs about aging.

"I age gracefully and vibrantly."

Day 19

Stress-Free Living

Stress is not caused by events — it is caused by your interpretation of events. Peace is not the absence of challenges — it is inner calm regardless of circumstances.

"I am calm, centered, and peaceful."

Day 20

Practicing Your Affirmations

Knowing about affirmations is not enough — you must practice them. Say them, write them, think them, feel them. Consistency beats intensity.

"I am creating a life I love, one thought at a time."

Day 21

The Way Forward

The 21 days are complete but this is not the end — it is the beginning. The habit is formed; now it deepens. Continue choosing thoughts that support you.

"I am worthy, I am loved, I am enough — exactly as I am."
