Four approaches to past-life phenomena, the leaders in the field, and Brennan's unique contribution through the HECS.
What Are 'Past Lives'?
Heyoan teaches that what we call "past lives" are actually experiences held in the fourth level of the HEF, where time is non-linear. The unresolved experiences from any life remain in the field until resolved. We keep re-creating similar experiences until we heal them.
"To become individuated, you began the healing spirals, through the process of what you call incarnation and reincarnation. You have created these terms — incarnation and reincarnation — by separating them with your idea of something called time. Using a linear time scale, you can go back in time and remember other life experiences. All these life experiences are tools for recognizing the self."

The Four Approaches
1. Psychic
Past-life readings or channeling past-life information. A psychic or channel provides information about your past lives without therapeutic process.
2. Parapsychological
Scientific and experimental investigation of past-life claims to prove or disprove their existence. Research-based, not therapeutic.
3. Religious
Reincarnation as an article of faith or doctrine. Most of the world's religions include reincarnation. (It was allegedly removed from Christianity at the First Council of Nicea in 325 AD — though this is disputed.)
4. Psychotherapeutic/Healing
Therapeutic work to improve life experience through past-life regression and energy healing. This is Brennan's focus — using past-life phenomena for healing, not curiosity.
Dr. Ian Stevenson's Research
Dr. Ian Stevenson, chairman of psychiatry at the University of Virginia, devoted 50 years to the scientific documentation of past-life memories in children. He studied children who spontaneously (without hypnosis) remembered past lives.
His methodology:
He ended up with over 3,000 cases of matching results and wrote a 2,200-page book correlating birthmarks to past-life wounds: Reincarnation and Biology.
"Either Dr. Stevenson is making a colossal mistake, or he will be known as the Galileo of the 20th century."
— Dr. Harold Lief, Journal of Nervous and Mental Disease
Carl Jung's Approach
Rather than focus on whether past lives "actually" took place, Jung used the phenomena of archetypes for therapeutic purposes. Archetypes are ancient, universal character formations — the root structures of our psyches. Past-life therapy offers a "blank screen" upon which to project the archetypes that lie deep in the psyche.
This type of work became known as Shadow Work — looking at unpleasant and often negative shadowy characteristics inside a person's psyche, rather than repressing them further.
Brennan's Contribution: The HECS
Brennan's unique contribution is applying her knowledge of the HECS to past-life phenomena. She discovered that unresolved experiences from past lives are held as time capsules in the fourth level of the HEF — not on a linear timeline, but grouped by similarity.
This means: a wound from a "past life" that is in the same body area as a current wound is held together with it in the same time capsule. Healing the current wound often requires healing the original (past-life) wound.
Seven Aspects of Past-Life Wounds
Misuses of Past-Life Work
1. Avoidance
Focusing on other lives to avoid issues in this life. The "other" lives are usually seen as having been powerful, rich, or famous.
2. Projection and Blame
Putting blame on people in this life for things experienced in other lives. Even if they did treat you badly in another incarnation, focusing on them won't help you heal. It's YOUR unfinished creation, not theirs!
3. Taking Unwarranted Privileges
Using past-life connections as an excuse for inappropriate behavior in this life (e.g., "we were married in a past life, so we need to have sex now to work out our problems").
Stumbling Blocks for the Healer
Solution: Personal process work, patience, humility, and focused skills practice.
Brennan's Key Insight
Rather than seeing past lives as literal historical events, Brennan discovered they are energetic realities held in the field. The "past" is not actually past — it is your creative energy held in stagnation.
"What you call the past, locked in a time capsule when that creative force was arrested, is not actually a past held in time. Rather, it is your creative light energy, held by the wound's density that curls light. Your illusion of a past is actually your creative energy held in stagnation."
