The Human Energy Consciousness System

Your four dimensions of being — the foundational map of who you are, from Brennan's 40 years of observation.

What Is the HECS?

The Human Energy Consciousness System (HECS) is Barbara Brennan's framework for understanding the full scope of what you are. After decades of observing the human energy field with High Sense Perception (HSP), she identified four distinct dimensions of being — each nested within the next, each functioning completely differently.

The key insight: energy is consciousness. The energies that make up your field are not inert — they carry awareness, information, and intelligence. This is why Brennan added "consciousness" to the name. Your energy field isn't just a glow around your body — it is a living, thinking, feeling aspect of you.

The Four Dimensions

From deepest to most manifest, your four dimensions are:

1. The Core Star

Your divine source — the deepest dimension of your being. At its center is the "black velvet void," teeming with un-manifest life. From this void arises the core star: a bright point of light that is your individuated divine essence. It is unique to you — the distilled essence of all you have become through many experiences and incarnations. It appears in the nucleus of every cell, in your DNA.

2. The Hara

The dimension of intention and purpose. A vertical tube of light running through the center of your body, from above the head deep into the earth. It holds three key points: the individuation point (connection to Godhead), the soul seat (upper chest — carries your longing), and the tan tien (below navel — your power center of intention).

3. The Human Energy Field (HEF)

The auric field — what many call the aura. Composed of multiple frequency levels (at least seven), each with a specific function. The HEF is the blueprint and template for the physical body. It is composed of bioplasma — charged energy particles directly associated with consciousness.

4. The Physical Body

The most manifest dimension. It is completely dependent on the three deeper dimensions for its origin, life, growth, shape, and health. The physical body cannot exist without them. Every cell contains all four dimensions within it.

The Black Velvet Void

At the center of the core star is what Brennan calls the "black velvet void." It is teeming with un-manifest life — full of unimaginable power. It is the source of all manifestation. Brennan connects this to the quantum mechanics concept of the zero point field: both are understood as the source of all manifestation, one from direct spiritual experience, the other from physics.

"There is no disconnection from the void of the core essence to all else within your life. The surging of your life force and its manifestations comes from this deep apparent emptiness. You can find this deep, black, velvet void within the center of every cell, within every cell's nucleus, within the DNA."

The Hara: Intention & Purpose

The hara is the dimension of intention. When healthy, it extends from about 3.5-4 feet above the head all the way down into the center of the earth. Three key points define it:

  • • Individuation Point (ID point): At the top — your first individuation from the core star into this incarnation. Your direct connection to the Godhead.
  • • Soul Seat: In the upper chest (manubrium). A soft pulsating light of pink, lavender, and white. It carries your soul's longing — what you came here to accomplish.
  • • Tan Tien: 2-3 inches below the navel. A hollow sphere of powerful intention. Martial artists and advanced healers know how to regulate energy from here.

When your hara line is fully aligned and centered, you experience effortless intention — no resistance to the flow of creative life through you.

How the Dimensions Influence Each Other

Each dimension is nested within the one deeper than it. The core star influences the hara. The hara influences the HEF. The HEF influences the physical body. There is no direct flow between them — instead, the influence transmutes as it moves through each dimension:

  • • Core essence → becomes intention in the hara
  • • Intention → becomes reason, will, and emotion in the HEF
  • • Reason/will/emotion → becomes living flesh in the physical

Because deeper dimensions are the foundation, disturbances there affect everything above. A distortion in your hara will ripple up into your HEF and eventually into your physical body. This is why healing must address all four dimensions.

Self-Review Exercises

From Chapter 1:

  1. Try to sense the levels of your HEF. If you do physical activities, start with the lower levels. If you're a feeling person, focus on level two. If love is your focus, start with level four. If you surrender to divine will, try level five.
  2. Can you relate each level of the HEF to your life experience? This is about recognizing yourself in the levels of your field.
  3. Sense yourself as each of the four dimensions of your HECS. Notice which is easiest to sense, and which is hardest. Practice.

Four Dimensions of Being

Dimension 4

Physical Body

The densest dimension — your flesh, bones, organs. The final precipitation of creative energy into matter.

Indicators

  • •Touchable, measurable
  • •Governed by physical laws
  • •Where illness finally manifests
  • •Slowest to change
Reflect

Which dimension of your HECS feels most activated right now — physical, emotional, mental, or spiritual? How do you sense it?
